MEGA – Music Effort for Green Activism is a residence, capacity-building and dissemination project aiming to use music for awareness and action towards climate injustice, ecology, and the environment. MEGA analyses, selects and highlights music best practices, projects and artefacts that positively impact the environment, driving actions and innovations for community-based initiatives.
The project addresses artists and music professionals, artistic curators, and cultural organisers, from 18 to 50 years of age, who wish to delve into creative project production and sustainability skills, either to improve or to gain them from scratch.
The project, comprised of 4 days of in-person Masterclass and Workshops at KORA, was conceived to promote principles of sustainability and ecology in the music industry, favouring a dialogue between professors, artists and project managers who will join the courses in the great southern Italian village of Castrignano dei Greci, in the Lecce province.
Through its training activities, including advanced courses and project work, the project imparts curatorial and design skills, both theoretical and practical. Between lectures and creative production activities held in the village, participants will be invited to use their creativity to produce an artistic artefact with an environmental-ecological focus. The creative works developed during the workshops, with the support and mentorship of the professors, will be presented live during the 2025 edition of AVANT Festival 2025.
Through podcasts, interviews, and the sharing of resources, the aim is to disseminate international practices and case studies at the intersection of music, sound, science, academic research, and sustainability. The project will explore innovative initiatives that can inspire artists, professionals, and cultural organisations to combat climate injustice through creative expression.
The educational materials and resources produced within the framework of the project will be accessible and designed to be scalable across different contexts and countries.
